Could be, but unlikely. Current moves are still smaller than swings in oil last year- 2008. Another thing of interest- USD-CAD had even bigger moves in 2007, when it hit all time high (low on the chart, high for CAD) and my results were still much lower than this year.
My theory is that now USD-CAD, or all CAD pairs, has much higher volume. What this does it smothes action a little bit, having less spikes that used to stop me out a lot before. Also, moves tend to continue into American session a little better than before, but that is not quantifiable and subjective. Think volume is the answer. But the few hours before Europe are still dead.

Mike, do you think the improved results from the USD/CAD system are because of the big swings in oil we have seen?

Heather, it depends on how sensitive uor entry rules are. You can easily make sure there is a trade every day, but that means you would most likely have more stopped out trades.

Interesting. I never looked at Canadian Dollar this way. My own trades in this currency are working out too well. Get stopped out a lot.

It appears that you wouldn't have a trade every day, but maybe 4 times a week on average, correct?

Hi Ken,
you can really use just about anything for a breakout. Previous ranges, highs/lows, even projected pivot points for session, 4H or whatever. You can call it VBO, opening range breakout, etc Point is that volatility increases and very often it turns into directional moves. There is considerable level of predictability here, and this could be enough for a decent trading strategy.

By breakout I presume you mean a volatility breakout (VBO)? I trade a similar method but on a weekly timeframe, your post has piqued my curiosity. Time to pore over some charts. Thanks.
